Building was started April 1999, previously having built a 1/8th scale-model The model proved useful for planning and estimating

  1. time and materials
  2. construction methods
  3. positioning deck fittings
  4. cordage and number of blocks

Build time for the hull and superstructure including epoxy sheathing inside and out was about twenty weeks

The GRP keel was moulded and trial fitted while the hull was upside down

The timber used in construction is Russian clear pine, the plywood is far-east WBP exterior grade, the adhesive is ‘Bolcotan’ moisture-curing polyurethane, the epoxy is from ‘Mas Epoxies ’ all exterior fastenings are S/Steel, interior furniture fixed with brass or waxed and passivated screws

The port-lights are double glazed non-opening bronze castings from my patterns

The masts are fabricated from thick wall aluminium tube, epoxy glued and screwed at the sleeve joins, faired and sheathed

The masts are supported in polyethylene lined alloy tubes bonded at deck and keel

Mast furniture is galvanised mild steel as are the mooring bitts and self steering platform

Engine is a YANMAR 2QM20 with a Yanmar/hurth 2.14 to1 gearbox driving a 13 inch diameter, 13 inch pitch propeller through a Sillett Sonic sail drive leg
